2nd Annual Battle for the Bra
Posted In Blog,Featured
For the second year, Columbia QuadSquad will be partnering with Share Our Suzy during October, Breast Cancer Awareness month. Skaters from CQS (as well as CQS Mini Derby, the Carolina Wreckingballs and Richland County Regulators) will be teaming up to decorate and donate bras to be auctioned off in a silent auction to benefit this great organization. Come out on October 16, 2011 and watch QuadSquad take on the Blue Ridge Rollergirls from Asheville.
Share Our Suzy is a non-profit organization partnered with Palmetto Health Foundation in Columbia, Hollings Cancer Center in Charleston and most recently Roper Hospital in Charleston. This organization honors the memory of local photographer Suzy McGrane, who had battled breast cancer since her early twenties. Suzy was active in the community to raise funds for breast cancer patients. Her spirit lives on in the efforts of Share Our Suzy, or SOS. This organization helps to bridge the financial gap from diagnosis to remission. The funds that are raised by SOS help cover the costs of wigs, prosthetics, childcare, utility bill assistance and so much more. Self-esteem and morale are boosted by services SOS provides, and a stressful weight is lifted off of patients’ shoulders when they know their bills are being covered or that their children can get home from school while they are in treatment. Share Our Suzy helps financially where insurance companies leave off.
Columbia QuadSquad is so proud to take part in the Battle for the Bra for the second year in a row in order to help to raise money for this amazing organization. We are glad we can help Suzy’s memory live on in the work of the volunteers of Share Our Suzy.
