2010 CQS Season Kickoff!
The members of the Columbia Quad Squad would like to send a shout-out of thanks to our fans for the amazing show of support we’ve seen at our recent events. You guys really make doing what we love more exciting and special! We had a record turnout at our 2010 season opener, The New Years Knock Down, at the Jamil Temple against Charleston’s Low Country High Rollers. We are proud to announce that this bout was the debut of a new addition to the CQS league family, the Miss B-havers, a second team made up of a mix of both new girls and seasoned vets. With two CQS teams on the bill, you should expect nothing less than twice the action and double the excitement!
Charitable work and community involvement have taken a front seat for our team already in 2010. The New Years Knock Down afforded CQS the opportunity to team up with Tamika and Friends, an initiative that raises awareness for cervical cancer screening, and provides resources for women to aid in preventing the disease. Check out the amazing work that’s being done in the fight against cervical cancer in the Midlands at http://www.tamikaandfriends.org/. We are happy to report that over $1070.00 was raised at the New Years Knock Down alone to go toward this worthwhile cause.
Look for us on Friday, April 16 at the State Fair Grounds for the Columbia Relay for Life. CQS will be out in full force to support the Columbia Cancer Killers, a roller derby-themed Relay for Life team. These folks are ready to take cancer out at the knees, and we are excited to be a part of their efforts!
Along with being dedicated to making the world a better place, we’ve also been playing some hard-hitting derby bouts outside of the Midlands! Our All Star Team traveled to Gainesville, Florida, where they played the Gainesville Roller Rebels, winning 33–116. These ladies also traveled to Alabama to defeat the Burn City Rollers 118-180. The CQS Miss B-havers went down to Charleston to show the LCHR Bruisin’ Betties a thing or two, winning out 30-90. Needless to say, the year is starting off strong, and we look forward to the rest of our amazing match-ups that are on our schedule for the 2010 season!
